Real Madrid’s shortlist to replace Luka Modric includes a number of Premier League players – including a Liverpool star, according to a report.

Modric announced his end-of-season departure from Madrid on Thursday, having been with the Spanish giants for 13 years after joining from Tottenham and going on to become the club’s most decorated player ever.

In total, Modric has collected 28 team trophies during his time with Los Blancos and even toppled Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to win a Ballon d’Or back in 2018.

It has, though, now been revealed who is on the shortlist to replace the star, according to a report from AS.

And it’s not good reading for Liverpool fans – who could find themselves losing another player to Madrid in the future if Los Blancos choose to push through with their interest.

The report suggests Alexis Mac Allister is being monitored by the club on the back of another impressive season with the Reds, meaning he could follow Trent Alexander-Arnold to the Bernabeu this summer.

The World Cup winner has played 49 times for Liverpool in a season that has seen them win the Premier League under Arne Slot, and he will be rested for the final game of the campaign this weekend against Crystal Palace.

He has been one of the Reds’ star players since joining for £35million in 2023, penning a deal until 2028. It means Madrid would likely have to cough up a sizeable fee if they were to prize him away.

Madrid’s main target, however, is thought to be Rodri. The most recent Ballon d’Or winner returned to action on Tuesday for the first time in eight months after tearing his ACL at the start of the season and should be fully fit for the new campaign.

The club are reportedly willing to spend big on Modric’s replacement, and they would have to do that to sign the Spaniard, whose deal runs until 2027. Rodri, who formerly played for Madrid’s rivals Atletico, is thought to be a big admirer of Los Blancos.

Elsewhere, Enzo Fernandez is also on the club’s shortlist, with the midfielder also thought to be keen on a potential move. He joined Chelsea for £107m at the start of 2023, but has had an indifferent time at the club.

The Blues, though, are thought to view the 24-year-old as pretty much untouchable. If he was to leave, it is reported that Chelsea would be looking to recoup a nine-figure sum – which could be too much for Madrid.

Other players on the shortlist include Angelo Stiller of Stuttgart and Hugo Larsson of Frankfurt.

Modric, meanwhile, will play his final match for Real Madrid at this summer’s Club World Cup – where they will face Al Hilal, RB Salzburg and Pachuca in their tournament group.

During his time at the club, the ex-Tottenham midfielder has won four LaLiga titles, six Champions League titles and two Copa del Rey – among a number of others. 

Last month, the veteran maestro revealed he wishes to retire in Madrid. He said: ‘Yes, I’d like to retire at Real Madrid, it would be a dream for me.’

Recently, he became a part owner of Championship side Swansea City.
