() Questions remain about Elias Rodriguez, the man who allegedly shot and killed two Israeli Embassy employees in Washington, D.C., but Rodriguez’s background and several signals may have manifested his beliefs.

Rodriguez, whose father is an Iraq War veteran, allegedly shouted “Free Palestine” as he was led away after his arrest and told police that he was the one who “did it,” according to documents.

The FBI says they are looking into a possible manifesto and possible radical writings that Rodriguez made.

Rodriguez had several associations with radical groups

Rodriguez has been linked to the Answer Coalition, a left-wing group that devotes itself to ending war and racism. The Answer Coalition has also been responsible for promoting pro-Palestinian protests as recently as last month.

In 2017, Rodriguez was a part of the Answer Coalition, which protested a possible new Amazon hub in Chicago.

The Answer Coalition promoted a GoFundMe for Rodriguez in 2017 to travel to Washington, D.C., to attend the People’s Congress of Resistance, with the goal of putting an end to imperialist war.

Rodriguez also had a brief association with the Party for Socialism and Liberation. In October 2017, an article by Liberation — the newspaper of the PSL — listed Rodriguez as one of its activists in an article about the police shooting of 17-year-old Black youth Laquan McDonald in Chicago in 2014.

Rodriguez was well-known to Chicago police: Report

Rodriguez was familiar to Chicago police, according to a report.

The 31-year-old became a regular fixture at protests for Black Lives Matter and opposing the war in Gaza.

Rodriguez backed the Biden administration

Records showed that in 2020, Rodriguez donated $500 to Joe Biden’s presidential campaign.

The Federal Election Commission had a filing, and it said that the person with Rodriguez’s name and belonging to the same neighborhood made the donation.
