In the world, there are millions of Survivor fans who are way past the point of having to figure out which seasons to watch first. Instead, those viewers of Jeff Probst’s beloved reality show know things like which former players refused to return and who was the first to be medically evacuated. Those are also the kind of fans who know which players are considered the best ever, how to rank the show’s seasons, and which winners get the most respect.
While Survivor’s most passionate fans know a lot about the show, nothing replaces being a former three-time player like Kelley Wentwoth. Using her expertise, Kelley has recently revealed things like how Survivor producers made a huge mistake and who she wants to play during Survivor 50. Similarly, Kelley used her expertise to explain to fans why she thinks Survivor 48’s edit has misled viewers.
Why Kelley Wentworth Thinks That Survivor 48’s Editing Has Misled Fans About Mitch Guerra
Throughout the world, there are many Survivor fans who love to debate every aspect of the show. Truly passionate about things like the strategy that makes the game so fascinating, fans often have definitive opinions about what players should and shouldn’t do.
However, while having thoughts like that, there are two things that Survivor fans should really try to remember more. First off, fans only see a small fraction of the events that take place during every season of Survivor. Secondly, each episode of Survivor tells a story that was largely crafted during the editing process.
Of course, it is different to know those facts intellectually and to actually keep that in mind while reacting to a Survivor episode. However, the legendary Kelley Wentworth reminded fans of the importance of those ideas by publicly explaining why she thinks Survivor 48’s edit has misled fans.
On May 2nd, 2025, Kelley Wentworth published a video on her TikTok account.
Kelley Wentworth’s Survivor Placements | |
---|---|
Placement | Season |
14th Place/5th Voted Out/Day 13 | Survivor: San Juan del Sur |
4th Place/16th Voted Out/10th Jury Member/Day 38 | Survivor: Cambodia |
10th Place/11th Voted Out/7th Jury Member/Eliminated/Day 35 | Survivor: Edge of Extinction |
During that video, Kelley explained why she thought Survivor 48’s editing was misleading, and she had excellent arguments. Most notably, Kelley explained that she thinks Survivor 48’s edit is missing context for why Mitch didn’t make a move against the power alliance.
“That makes me think there is something we’re missing with Mitch. Because why would he so easily go with the stronger group knowing he’s at the bottom? Never saw in the edit that he was ever working with them. When there was the six, he was never a part of the six. So why would he just so easily now be with the six? Again, I think there is an editing miss there. I just can’t believe that he would not want to make a move with the four.”
Later in the video, Kelley spoke about how she’d initially reacted to Mitch Guerra while watching Survivor 48.
Unfortunately for Mitch, he has received a lot of flack from fans as Survivor 48 has been airing. Most notably, many fans have been angry at Mitch for not teaming with Star and other players to take out a member of Joe Hunter and Eva Erickson’s alliance.
Even though Mitch Guerra has angered many fans for how he played strategically during Survivor 48, he arguably doesn’t get enough credit. As an April 2025 TheThings article argued, Mitch was an underrated challenge beast, and he did a great job making all of his tribemates like him.
During her TikTok video, Kelley reflected on how she too had been hard on Mitch.
I was very harsh last night on Mitch. I was. I said, ‘I like Mitch.’ But I was being harsh on the move.
While talking about comments she’d made about Mitch the day before, Kelley revealed those remarks were what inspired her to think about the season’s edit more. “After last night, I really thought about it.”
Throughout Survivor’s history, there have been many players who’ve complained about how the show’s edit depicted them. One recent example of that was revealed in a March 2024 Entertainment Weekly article. While talking to that outlet, Jem Hussain-Adams complained about how she was portrayed when Survivor 46 aired.
After explaining why she’d reconsidered her remarks about him, Kelley stated during the TikTok that she believed Mitch was misunderstood because of the edit.
I think we need to blame production for some of this. I don’t know what we’re gonna be told next week, but it’s very strange.
Earlier during the same video, Kelley cited an example of why she felt that Mitch was misunderstood.
During Survivor 48, fans saw Mitch get approached about teaming up with Star and others to take out members of the power alliance. However, Mitch didn’t want to go along with that plan because he didn’t trust Star.
During Kelley’s TikTok video, she spoke about Survivor 48’s edit not giving fans an explanation for why Mitch didn’t trust Star.
“I was thinking about Mitch and how the move, or lack of a move, did not make sense. The thing with Mitch not trusting Star, and it wasn’t just Mitch not trusting Star. It was everybody saying Star has to go. He doesn’t wanna do it. He didn’t wanna trust that. You cannot trust that. Yeah. Where did that come from?”
Ultimately, Kelley explained during the TikTok video that she believed there was context for Mitch’s distrusting Star that she believed Survivor 48’s edit was missing.
“So is there something we’re missing with Star? Clearly, because her edit, we barely saw her all season. When we did see her, she was hilarious. She was consoling Cedric after that challenge. She was seen as like a compassionate type person. And then in her boot episode, we’re just seeing everyone wanting to go against her. [Mitch] was at the challenge saying, ‘She can’t win, she must go. Do not let Mary or Star oh my god. It would pain me to see one of them wearing a necklace. Mhmm. Especially Star. We need to get rid of that girl.’ What do you mean she must go? Out of where? Also, weird decision.”
Kelley Wentworth Cited Other Reasons She Thought Survivor 48’s Edit Has Misled Fans
While Kelley Wentworth’s biggest issue with Survivor 48 revolved around Mitch Guerra, her issues went further than that. During the same TikTok video, Kelley named two other examples of why she found Survivor 48’s edit misleading to viewers.
During the TikTok video, Kelley explained that she believed Survivor 48’s edit made the reasons for David Kinne getting voted out hard to understand.
“Previously, we were not told that David and Mary were so close. That was kinda just sprung on us, blindside. And then Joe told Mary in this episode, ‘Oh, the reason that David went home was because of you.’ When what we saw is that he was paranoid and he said something to Joe that Joe did not like the sound of. So something was not adding up and I was thinking about it and I was going all these editing things. The pieces of the puzzle are not piecing together. We are missing out on stuff.”
Kelley’s final example of why she found Survivor 48’s editing problematic revolved around Kyle Fraser and Joe Hunter. In her video, Kelley argued that fans weren’t shown a good reason why Kyle suddenly spoke about refusing to turn against Joe.
“I’m gonna give another example because I actually wrote down examples. There was one with Kyle where Kyle says something to Kamilla, and he’s basically saying like, ‘I will never go against Joe now.’ And for me watching, I’m like, why? Because they had one conversation on the beach? Prior to that, we’ve never seen Kyle like closely working with Joe, unless I’ve missed it.”
As a former three-time player herself, Kelley’s comments about Survivor 48’s editing are fascinating.
