BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A juvenile male was killed in a shooting in the far northwest end of Birmingham on Saturday night.
According to the Birmingham Police Department, officers received a transfer call from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office around 8:10 p.m. of a report of a person shot in the 8600 block of Birmingport Road. At the scene, they found a juvenile male unresponsive in a vehicle. He was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingport Fire Department personnel pronounced the male dead. The BPD said people who knew each other were participating in recreational boating activities. When that ended, a male fired a gun, fatally wounding the victim.
The BPD said the circumstances surrounding the shooting were unclear. Surviving members of the group were transported to BPD Headquarters for questioning.
The BPD said more details will be released when they become available.
