Dr. Younan Nowzaradan, who’s better known as Dr. Now, is returning in the new Lifetime series The 6,000 Lb. Diaries With Dr. Now. The show will follow a group of people living with extreme obesity and offer an unfiltered look at their day-to-day realities, personal breakthroughs and plenty of Dr. Now’s no-nonsense advice.

What Is ‘The 6,000-Lb. Diaries’ About?

The series will follow 10 people whose combined weight totals over 6,000 pounds. Each episode focuses on their physical, emotional and psychological struggles as they work with Dr. Now to transform their lives. The show will offer an eye-opening view into what it took for the stars to make serious lifestyle changes and the setbacks several of them faced along the way.

Fans first met Dr. Now in My 600-Lb. Life on TLC, and he’s been the lead bariatric surgeon on the show since 2012. However, he’s now added to his resume with this new series on Lifetime.

The network’s synopsis for the show reads, “Set at Dr. Now’s renowned Houston-based medical center, each episode offers an unfiltered look at the deeply personal journeys of individuals grappling with extreme obesity. Through raw, first-person diary footage and emotional confessional moments, The 6,000 lb. Diaries gives viewers unprecedented access to the physical, emotional, and psychological challenges that come with reclaiming one’s health — and one’s life. With a compassionate but no-nonsense approach, Dr. Now and his expert team provide medical expertise, emotional support, and life-saving bariatric procedures to help patients confront the roots of their food addiction and build sustainable paths forward. Each story is a testament to courage, transformation and the power of second chances.”

How Is ‘The 6,000 Lb. Diaries’ Different From ‘My 600-Lb. Life’?

My 600-Lb. Life focused on one participant per episode, but The 6,000 Lb. Diaries will weave multiple stories from different people together across the season. This format will give viewers a chance to track the progress and challenges of the stars, and it helps shine a light on the long-term commitment required for significant weight loss.

Dr. Now

The 6,000 Lb Diaries gives viewers a deeper dive into Dr. Now’s world than what they saw before in My 600-Lb. Life. His signature tough love will be on full display, but so will his compassion. The new series will allow fans to see more of his process, more time with each patient and more insight into how complex their weight loss journeys really are.

When Does ‘The 6,000 Lb. Diaries’ Premiere?

Lifetime gave fans a sneak peak of The 6,000 Lb. Diaries with one episode in January 2025. The episode featured Chelsey, a 25-year-old who had struggled with her weight since childhood. After avoiding Dr. Now’s program since she was just 9 years old, Chelsey was ready to commit to the steps necessary for a healthier future.

The 6,000 Lb Diaries With Dr. Now officially premieres on May 26, 2025, at 10 p.m. ET on Lifetime, and it launches with two back-to-back hour-long episodes. Plus, for those who miss the live broadcast, episodes become available for streaming the next day on Lifetime’s official website and app, along with several streaming platforms, including Hulu, Apple TV and more.
