PHOTOS: Springfield fire crews respond to burning, rolled-over vehicle

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — The Springfield Fire Department respond to a vehicle that had flipped on its side and caught on fire on Friday.

It happened in the morning, near the area of 6th and Monroe. When firefighters arrived, they found that the car had hit a building and damaged a gas meter as well. Ameren was called to the scene to assist in shutting off the gas main.

The Springfield Police Department said that after talking with the driver, police learned the driver had swerved to avoid crashing with another vehicle. This led to the car hitting the building and gas meter.

No major injuries were reported from the accident, but the driver was issued a couple of tickets according to the police department. No arrests were made.
