ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Alachua County Sheriff’s Office is investigating two shooting incidents this weekend: one on Saturday in Linton Oaks and one in Newberry today.

One person was shot yesterday in Linton Oaks and was transported to a hospital. No further information is currently available about this incident.

Today, one person was shot on NW 7th Place, west of NW 252nd Street in Newberry, and transported to the hospital. Deputies have detained a person who is believed to be the shooter.

ASO has announced that the firearm used in the Newberry incident has been located, and deputies believe the shooter and victim knew each other. Law enforcement will be on scene for an extended period of time, but ASO says there is no immediate threat to the public.
