Jose Mourinho took another brutal swipe at the Turkish Super Lig and the press after his Fenerbahce side lost to already relegated Hatayspor.

Fenerbahce fell to a 4-2 away loss on Monday and are now nine points behind title winners Galatasaray with one game remaining.

A defiant Mourinho, who has frequently belittled the division since joining Fenerbahce last summer, lashed out at reporters post-match, boasting of his continental success compared to Turkish clubs.

Galatasaray are the only Turkish club to feature in a European final, beating Arsenal to clinch the UEFA Cup in 2000.

Mourinho, meanwhile has won six European honours. His latest victory was the Europa Conference League with Roma in 2022 and he lifted the Europa League with Manchester United in 2017.

The 62-year-old also defended his results after a season which has seen Fenerbahce finish second for the fourth consecutive year.

‘In relation to the results, only people that don’t understand what football is, doesn’t understand what end of season is [criticise us].

‘End of season is painful for teams who don’t have an objective. For people that are fighting for title for Europe, for relegation, the motivation goes every day. For people that lose the objectives, it’s painful.’

He added: ‘We had a difficult summmer because of players coming from the Euros and coming very late for preparation.’

Two weeks ago Mourinho provided a witty reply when he was quizzed by a reporter over the frequent changes to his side.

‘I have 25 coins, I throw the coins in the air.’ he said, throwing his arms into the air in mime.

‘The ones that stay on the table are the ones that I play. The ones that go on the floor, they go on the bench. I do it just like this.

‘During the week, I’m having fun. I go to nightclubs every day in Instanbul, everywhere. And then when it’s time to choose the team, I throw coins with the players’ faces (on them).

‘The 11 that stay on the table are the 11 that play… it’s simple.’

He has already used comedy showed his disdain towards reporters questions this season.

After March’s 3-1 defeat by Rangers, Mourinho pretended to fall asleep at his chair as the reporter rambled on in Turkish.

‘Oh, this is too much for my head. I’m tired, man,’ he said, while scratching his head.

’90 minutes not to listen to all of this, I’m too tired for that.’

Mourinho’s debut season has been mired in controversy.

He was hit a three-match ban last month after appearing to grab the nose of Galatasaray boss Okan Buruk in the latest of a series of incendiary of incidents.

While in February, Mourinho filed a lawsuit against Galatasaray after the club accused him of making racist statements.

In November he tore into the Turkish Super Lig in an incredible tirade following his team’s 3-2 away win at Trabzonspor on Sunday.

Mourinho did not hold back as he boldly stated: ‘Nobody abroad wants to watch the Turkish league.

‘Who wants to watch this Turkish league abroad? They have the Premier League, they have the French league, they have the German league, they have the Portuguese league, they have the Dutch league. Why should they see this?

‘It’s too grey. It’s too dark, smells bad. But that’s my job, and I will give everything to my job, to my club.’

Despite missing out on the league title for an eleventh consecutive season, Mourinho is likely to stay on, with club president Ali Koc saying ‘we want to continue with Jose Mourinho for stability.’

Fenerbahce missed out on the title to arch-rivals Galatasaray but are 20 points ahead of third placed Samsunspor.

They could feature in next season’s Champions League but will have to go through qualification rounds in the summer.
