RUSKIN, Fla. (WFLA) — A crash that killed four people in Ruskin on Sunday does not appear to be the result of reckless driving, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened at around 8:15 p.m. near Shell Point Road West and 32nd Street Northwest.

Security camera footage from nearby homes showed the car blowing through an intersection, tearing across a yard, striking a tree and a home before overturning and coming to a stop. HCSO said Tuesday that the crash “does not appear” to be “due to reckless driving.”

HCSO also released the names of the four people killed in the crash. The driver was identified as Richard Laurence Wilson, 53, and the passengers were identified as his wife, Cynthia Jean Wilson, 52, and her two adult children, Shannon Jade Janus, 20, and James Edward Janus, 19.

Residents told 8 On Your Side that they’ve been calling on Hillsborough County to implement safety measures after speeding and other incidents in their neighborhood.

“There’s been deaths,” neighbor Julie Coleman said. “Four people have died, and all we need was some stop signs.”

Coleman’s home, which was undergoing renovations following last year’s hurricanes, was so heavily damaged during the crash that it is now considered unlivable. She and her husband are now forced to find a new place to live.
