Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has confirmed that he will be leaving the club upon the expiration of his contract.

The 33-year-old joined the Gunners from Chelsea for £12million in January 2023 and made 79 appearances in all competitions for the club.

The last of those was a one-minute cameo in a 1-0 win over Newcastle in the penultimate game of the season, following a spell on the sidelines through a punctured lung.

‘Sometimes the season is more than just about football, it’s about moments. People. Growth. It’s about feeling part of something bigger than yourself,’ Jorginho said, while speaking over the top of a montage of clips on Instagram.

‘When I arrived at Arsenal, I wasn’t joining a club I was stepping into a family. A team full of hunger. Passion. Purpose.

‘I gave everything I had, every day. Every match. Not just for the results, but for this shirt. For the fans.

‘Your support… it meant everything. Whether I was starting or on the bench, you made me feel valued. Loved. That’s rare in football and I will never forget it.

‘Now, it’s time to say goodbye. Or maybe, see you soon.’

The midfielder also took time to send a heartfelt message to anybody in connection with Arsenal.

‘When a place feels like home, a farewell is never easy. But I leave with my head held high and my heart full,’ he continued.

‘To my team-mates, thank you for trusting me, for pushing me.

‘To the coach, to the staff, and the whole people behind the scenes, thank you for the support on the pitch, off the pitch, and for always being there for me with kindness and love.

‘And to the fans, thank you for singing my name and believing in me. Thank you, Arsenal. With love and respect, Jorginho.

Jorginho’s minutes were limited at Arsenal this season due to the stellar performances of Declan Rice in the middle of the park.

He only made nine starts in the Premier League as Mikel Arteta’s side finished second for the third campaign on the spin, this time losing out on the title to Liverpool.

The Italian’s departure had already been confirmed by Arteta, following the final-day win on the south coast.

‘It was important to win it, it was important as well to say goodbye to a few players who have left our football club, to say thank you for their contribution.

‘Some of them, like Kieran [Tierney], they’ve been on this journey for six years with us. Jorginho, we’re trying to hug him, Neto, and Raheem [Sterling] as well.

‘So, there are a few players that I had the duty to say thank you to. I think we all have and we wish them the best for the next season.’

Mail Sport have previously reported that Brazilian side Flamengo are interested in snapping up Jorginho ahead of the revamped Club World Cup next month.

The Brazilian side are in advanced talks over signing the 33-year-old, having made an approach in December.

They are now trying to close an agreement on a deal early so that he can be registered to face Tunis in their opening group game on June 17.

The next game after that would see Jorginho face his former club Chelsea on June 20.
