One man hospitalized; person arrested in Champaign stabbing

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The Champaign Police Department is investigating after they found evidence that shots were fired during a large gathering of people overnight.

Department officials said officers were dispatched to the area of Springfield Avenue and Kenwood Road at 1:19 a.m. for a report of shots being fired. When they arrived, the officers found a large crowd with multiple fights in progress.

As the officers worked to disperse the crowd, officials said they found evidence of gunfire, including damage to a vehicle. No injuries have been reported.

The officers stayed on-scene for several more hours to process the evidence and canvass the area for any eyewitnesses.
