Hugh Jackman’s estranged wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, filed for divorce from the actor more than one year after they announced their separation, Us Weekly can confirm.

Furness, 69, filed the complaint in New York on Friday, May 23, according to court documents viewed by Us. Furness’ lawyer Elena Karabatos filed a series of docs that signified the exes had hashed out their divorce details behind closed doors after announcing their breakup in September 2023.

The filings include “a notice concerning continuation of health care coverage,” a proposed “qualified medical child support order” and a New York state case registry form, which is used to report child support orders for the region. The divorce docs also outline Furness and Jackman’s settlement, a proposed judgment of divorce and certificate of dissolution.

Furness and Jackman, 56, met in 1995 while filming Australian TV series Correlli. They tied the knot one year later and began their family in 2000 with the adoption of their son, Oscar. They expanded their brood in 2005 with the adoption of their daughter, Ava.

Throughout their 27-year marriage, Furness supported Jackman’s career and defended him amid rumors that he was gay. “If he was gay, he could be gay!” Furness joked during the “Not an Overnight Success” podcast in April 2022. “He didn’t have to hide in the closet anymore, and he’d be dating Brad Pitt, or whatever. Not that Brad’s gay, but you know what I’m saying!”

The following year, Jackman gushed over his then-wife on their 27-year anniversary. “Your laughter, your spirit, generosity, humor, cheekiness, courage and loyalty is an incredible gift to me. I love you with all my heart,” the Wolverine actor wrote via Instagram in April 2023.

Five months later, news broke that Furness and Jackman were getting divorced. “We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage,” the pair said in a joint statement in September 2023. “Our journey now is shifting, and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.”

Jackman moved on with Sutton Foster in 2024, and Us confirmed that November that the pair were officially an item. Jackman and Foster, 50, grew close while working together on the 11-month run of Broadway’s The Music Man, which began in 2022.

Hugh Jackman’s ex-wife, Deborra-lee Furness, reacted to news of his relationship with Sutton Foster in her own way. As their romance took center stage, rumors surfaced that Jackman and Foster’s cozy relationship was a factor in his split from Furness. A source exclusively told Us in November 2024 that “Sutton and Hugh’s relationship is the reason Hugh and Deb got divorced.”

The insider claimed, “A lot of people on Broadway knew, and we kept it quiet because both of them are so nice and great people. Everyone respected their privacy. But there was an affair and overlap.”

Foster, for her part, was married to Ted Griffin when the alleged affair began. She filed for divorce in October 2024 and is now coparenting their 7-year-old daughter Emily.
