DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — The Danville Dans started their season at home on Tuesday and this year the organization is adding in some new features for the fans.

They’ve updated their bathrooms and placed air conditioning in a few of the locker rooms — all before the season opener.

The Danville Dans have been running since the 1940’s, continuing to stay relevant through several generations.

However, after all those years and memories, some work still needed to be done — which is why the current owners used a $100,000 grant to make the improvements for a party room, LED lighting and more.

“It just makes us feel like what we’re doing is is worthwhile. Now people are starting to take more of an interest in this place. But you have to remember, we’re on our second or third generation of people in Danville that come to these games,” Danville Dan Co-owner Richard Kurth said.

He said they’ve been working on the new improvements for six months. The grant came from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. Kurth said they are hoping to continue creating a better experience for the fans in the future by getting a new sound system and adding artificial turf.
