The hotly anticipated Harry Potter TV series just got even more exciting as HBO has now officially revealed the three leads to take on the roles of Harry, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger. The epic show about the wizarding world is set to span seven seasons – one for each of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter novels – and it is expected to first air in late 2026 or early 2027. So far, the actors and actresses to play Dumbledore, Hagrid, Snape, Professor McGonagall, Professor Quirrell, and Filch have all been confirmed, but now we know who will be filling in the shoes for the three main roles. Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout will be taking on the iconic characters, but where have you seen them before?

You’ll be forgiven if you don’t recognise them straight away, as HBO wished to cast fresh faces to re-create the original trio charm like they did with Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint.

Scottish child actor Dominic McLaughlin has landed the prominent role of Harry Potter in its HBO version. Previously played by Daniel Radcliffe, the lead role is also being played by a complete newcomer and this will be his first ever major acting gig.

The young Scot has previously been credited in an upcoming comedy on Sky titled Grow. This series also stars Nick Frost, who is set to play Hagrid in the HBO series.

Arabella, who is taking on the role of Hermione, has the most acting credits of the three major lead actors. The youngster has previously appeared on the West End stage as Matilda in the hit musical.

Meanwhile, Alistair Stout will be playing the red-haired wizard Ron Weasley and has no prior acting credits. Like Rupert Grint, the HBO series will be his biggest breakthrough.

Oscar nominee John Lithgow has been cast as Albus Dumbledore, with Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall; Emmy and BAFTA nominee Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape; and BIFA nominee Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.

Luke Thallon has been chosen as Quirinus Quirrell, but the official role of Lord Voldemort is yet to be confirmed. BAFTA winner Paul Whitehouse will be Argus Filch.

The series will be a faithful adaptation of the beloved Harry Potter book series by author and executive producer J.K. Rowling and will feature an exciting and talented cast to lead a new generation.
