A DCPS spokesperson said the schools are on lockout Friday morning out of an abundance of caution.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Several Jacksonville schools were on lockout Friday morning on the city’s Southside after a Duval County Public Schools (DCPS) spokesperson said a minor called in threatening to shoot up Southside Middle School.

In a message to parents, DCPS said Englewood Elementary and High School, Greenfield Elementary School and Southside Middle School were placed on lockout after a juvenile called Southside Middle threatening to conduct a school shooting.

Jacksonville Sheriff’s officers were called to these schools to assist DCPS Police on scene, a JSO spokesperson said.

A DCPS spokesperson said the lockout was placed out of an abundance of caution, and while schools were on lockout, students will be able to walk between school buildings, but won’t be able to enter or leave campus.

DCPS said Friday afternoon that the schools dismissed for the day. Here’s their full message to parents:
