ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Walt Disney World has been targeted in a lawsuit after a man was hurt going down a high-speed water slide at the Blizzard Beach theme park, according to court records filed on Thursday.

The lawsuit claims that the man — identified as Eugene Strickland — had visited the park back in July 2021, opting to try out the Downhill Double Dipper slide.

Per the lawsuit, Strickland weighed around 334 pounds at the time, which exceeded the slide’s weight limit of 300 pounds.

Despite that, Strickland got on the ride, going down the slide in an inner tube, court records reveal.

“While sliding down… (Strickland) became momentarily airborne as a result of the rides’ ‘exhilarating speeds’ and design, resulting on Disney’s inner tube becoming forcibly, suddenly and unexpectedly dislodged from underneath (Strickland’s) body,” the lawsuit reads.

As a result, Strickland forcefully landed onto the hard plastic surface of the slide, suffering “permanent catastrophic injuries,” the lawsuit alleges.

Now, Strickland is accusing the company of negligence and failing to maintain safe premises, arguing that Disney had a responsibility to fix the “dangerous conditions” of the water slide.

In all, the lawsuit asks for over $50,000 in damages, the lawsuit shows.
