Get ready to fire up the nine iron—Happy Gilmore 2 is officially teeing off, and Netflix just dropped its first full trailer during Tudum 2025 on Saturday, May 31.
Adam Sandler returns as everyone’s favorite hot-headed golfer nearly three decades after the 1996 sports-comedy classic that turned a driving range tantrum into cinematic gold. Directed by Kyle Newacheck and written by longtime Sandler collaborators Tim Herlihy and Sandler himself, Happy Gilmore 2 is shaping up to be more than just a nostalgia trip—it’s a full-blown reunion.
Alongside Sandler, we’ll see the return of Christopher McDonald as the forever-smug Shooter McGavin and Julie Bowen as love interest Virginia. But that’s just the beginning of the who’s-who tee sheet.
The new cast is a wild blend of athletes, entertainers, and Sandler regulars, including Ben Stiller, Bad Bunny, golf pros like John Daly, Justin Thomas, Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau, and social media star Paige Spiranac. Also in the mix: Conor Sherry, Ethan Cutkosky, Philip Fine Schneider, Maxwell Jacob Friedman, Blake Clark, and NFL star Travis Kelce—plus Sadie and Sunny Sandler, keeping it all in the family.
Speaking of family, Sandler himself teased the sequel’s emotional core while guesting on Kelce’s New Heights podcast back in August 2024.
“The movie itself picks up from an older guy who played golf a long time. Some stuff goes on in his life, and he’s different — he’s a bit of a mess,” the actor and comedian said. “And then we try to get his life cooking again.”
Meanwhile, McDonald, who’s made a second career out of being Shooter McGavin in spirit, shared his excitement with People at the Fountain of Youth premiere in NYC on May 19:
“I was over the moon to be asked to be in” the upcoming Happy Gilmore 2, he said. “I’ve been an ambassador for this movie for so long, 29 years later. They’ve outdone themselves.”
Plot details are still under wraps—McDonald made sure to mention he’s under NDA—but he did hint at the film’s feel-good vibes:
“It’s about family and friends and love and basically a lot of heart, which I love about Adam Sandler’s movies,” he shared.
“What I love about Adam Sandler is his heart. He’s got so much love for people … and he’s done some amazing work in the last few years. So I’m very happy for him.”
So mark your calendars: Happy Gilmore 2 hits Netflix on July 25. Whether you’re here for the golf, the gags, or the good vibes—this one looks like it’s playing straight down the fairway.
