The three were allegedly murdered while on a surfing trip in Baja California, one of the country’s most violent states, last April in what police say was a “robbery gone wrong” even as their execution-like killings raised suspicions that their deaths could be linked to organised crime.

Now, three statues have been unveiled at Punta San José in memory of the trio.

“This sculpture is a reminder that even though our sons are no longer with us physically, their spirits are still moving in the waves and carried by the ocean they loved,” parents Martin and Debra Robinson said.

The sculpture was designed with three intertwined wooden forms, each standing at six feet tall, overlooking the sea where the men spent their final days.
