It wasn’t known if the lucky winner or syndicate was aware of the sudden windfall, which is the second-biggest lottery prize of the year.

Millions of Australians were expected to enter tonight’s draw, the fourth biggest in Oz Lotto’s 31-year history.

Lottery officials were predicting one-in-five Australian adults would enter.

Ahead of the big draw, The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said Oz Lotto was eagerly awaiting its fourth division one win for this year.

How Australia’s lotto winners spent their cash

The last Oz Lotto $70 million draw in April was won by a 15-share Queensland syndicate, with each receiving more than $4.7 million.

It attracted a surge of late entries, with the peak of sales recorded over the last 30 minutes before the draw closed at 7.30pm.

Whether it is an individual or syndicate that scooped the cash today, the overnight millionaires will end the financial year on a high note.
