A second Love Island star has been questioned by police after being accused of stealing a phone during a night out. Dejon Noel-Williams was among the 12 contestants to be named on the fresh line-up of ITV’s hit dating series. However, the semi-pro footballer made headlines after a police probe.

The 26-year-old was interviewed about the harrowing ordeal, which took place in London, making him the second hopeful from this series to face police questioning after it was revealed that Kyle Ashman was held over a machete attack. Although both stars were released with no further action, Kyle was removed from the show for the incident involving his dad, which took place at a wake in February.

Despite his early exit, Kyle has since spoken out about being axed, saying: “I fully co-operated with this police investigation and made it very clear that I had no involvement in this incident. I am not a violent person and any suggestion otherwise is a mischaracterisation.”

A spokesperson has confirmed that ITV were aware of the event when Dejon secured his place as an Islander. According to The Sun, he spoke to the authorities alongside Kettering FC footballer Harlain Mbayo, who was ordered to carry out a community resolution, which can involve an apology or compensation.

The dispute was reportedly sparked over a disagreement about payment for food and an Uber taxi ride. Dejon last night told the publication: “I was never arrested. I voluntarily spoke to the police to clarify the truth about what happened in this incident, with no further action taken.”

He added: “To stress, my intentions here were entirely honourable and it is very upsetting to read claims that suggest otherwise.”

The Met Police said: “On March 16 at 04:05hrs officers responded to a report of a robbery in which a phone was taken. An investigation was launched and two men voluntarily took part in interviews. The victim’s phone was recovered and has been returned. No further action was taken against the 26-year-old man.”

As ITV added: “We speak to our Islanders in advance of the show in addition to rigorous background screening, including DBS checks.”
