Two tourists who have been missing in Tasmania since Wednesday have been found dead, Police have confirmed.

Leannedra Kang and Takahiro Toya were supposed to leave Launceston, Tasmania on a flight to Brisbane on June 4, but they never boarded the plane or returned their rental car.

The pair from Brisbane had been on holiday in the St Helens and Scamander area, were last seen leaving their accommodation in North Hobart on June 3.

Yesterday evening, they were found dead near a crashed vehicle in northeast Tasmania by police officers.

Police Inspector Luke Manhood said police found the car in water off Tebrakunna Road at 5.30pm yesterday.

The pair were found near the car, he said.

“At this early stage it appears they were travelling over a bridge when the vehicle has left the roadway and ended up in the water,” Manhood said.

“This is a tragic outcome, and our thoughts are with their families and loved ones.”

“Our initial investigations suggest there are no suspicious circumstances, but further forensic examinations will now take place as is the usual process, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.”

Both were aged in their 20s.
