When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their roles as working royals in 2020, Queen Elizabeth II allowed them to retain their duke and duchess titles if they still wanted to use them.

The couple chose to continue using their titles all the time. That move was a head-scratcher to some who wondered why Meghan and Harry wanted to keep using the titles that associate them with a family they claim treated them so poorly. However, others say they still cling to those titles tightly because of the status associated with the royals.

When Queen Elizabeth died and her oldest son became King Charles, the Sussexes’ children became Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. And now sources close to Harry and Meghan claim that they want their kids to use those titles in case Archie or Lili decide they want to be working royals one day.

Several experts have called that logic ridiculous, especially since the children don’t know and don’t have any relationship with Harry’s family.

Royal expert Jennie Bond slammed the Sussexes’ decision about their kids’ titles, telling The Mirror: “I really don’t understand why, having extricated themselves from a life they did not enjoy and in which Harry has publicly spoken of ‘feeling trapped,’ they want to give their children the option of re-joining. It makes no sense … It’s very hard to see how two children who are clearly now more American than British would want to change their whole way of life and become working members of the royal family.”

Some have also questioned if Archie and Lilibet would even have the option to become working royals as Harry and King Charles are no longer on speaking terms, and Harry hasn’t spoken to his brother, Prince William, in years.
