RICHMOND HILL, Ga. () — Sterling Creek Park will reopen in late June according to Richmond Hill officials. The park closed for maintenance on May 1 following several reported disturbances.
Richmond Hill Police Department (RHPD) records show officers investigated 26 incidents on April 27th at the park. Almost 20 people were arrested for driving without a license, two arrested for drug possession and another arrested for driving under the influence.
Residents in a nearby neighborhood say they’ve known about the illegal activity for a while.
“There were a couple of disturbances going on in front of our property,” Matthew McClintock said.
McClintock lives in the Sterling Creek neighborhood around the corner from the park, for 6 years.
“We had found out about the crime through the chief of police. Before that it happened, my middle child went back there to go fishing and came back 25 minutes later and said there’s a lot of stuff going on back there,” McClintock said.
A spokesperson with the city says they’re adding an electric gate and on-site staff to enforce rules, like making sure anyone under the age of 16 has an adult with them and banning solo-swimming, smoking and drinking.
McClintock and other residents told News 3 they’re glad the city took their concerns seriously. Sterling Creek Park is scheduled to reopen by the end of June.
