The National Park Service is seeking public input on raising the seawalls at Castillo de San Marcos. Comments are open until July 9.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — The National Park Service is asking the public to share their input on a major project to raise and rehabilitate the seawalls at the historic Castillo de San Marcos National Monument.

A public comment period is now open and will remain available through July 9. This marks the final opportunity for residents, visitors, and stakeholders to voice their opinions on the proposed changes before plans are finalized.

The project aims to address concerns related to flooding, storm surge, and long-term preservation of the historic site. The enhancements are part of a broader effort to protect the monument and surrounding areas from rising sea levels and erosion.

Construction on the seawall is expected to begin in 2026 and could take up to two years to complete.

Anyone interested in participating can access the survey and provide comments through the National Park Service’s planning website. You can access the survey by clicking here.
