Four masked men armed with hammers and metal bars stormed a jewellery business on Gympie Road in Chermside just after 5pm yesterday.

They hit the owner, Bijay Sunar, over the head, knocking him to the ground.

“I was so shocked when I see him in the shop all covered with blood,” his wife, Samita Sunar, said.

Witness Bivek said the scene was like a “horror movie”.

“They brought in crowbars. They brought in axes. They brought in hammers,” he said.

Bijay attempted to stop the robbery but he was hit over the head again with a hammer.

He stumbled into a back room, clutching his bleeding head.

“I was so hopeless. I hold him, shout for help,” Samita said.

In just four minutes, the intruders robbed the store, making several trips to and from their waiting getaway car.

“There were people yelling. There were people driving past through straight through. Nobody did anything,” Bivek said.

They fled the scene in a grey Honda CR-V station wagon with Queensland registration 495ZJW.

Emergency services were called to the scene and Bijay was rushed to hospital.

“He’s in ICU and I just got to know he has got an eye fracture and he has got a bleeding from his inner ear and he, he could hardly hear,” Samita said.

Bijay is tonight in a stable condition but his business remains a shattered mess.

The owners said their cabinets and walls were full of jewellery made of 24-carat gold.

They fear they have lost about $500,000 worth of product.

The four offenders remain on the run, and police are investigating.

“I want them behind the bars as soon as possible, and I don’t want anyone to face whatever I have faced today,” Samita said.

Anyone with dashcam or CCTV of the area, the vehicle, or of the moments leading up to or after the incident, are asked to contact police.
