Brian Wilson, the innovative leader of the Beach Boys, passed away at the age of 82. Known for creating timeless hits like “Good Vibrations” and “California Girls,” he was a key figure in shaping the sound of the band and becoming a highly influential artist worldwide.

Wilson’s family posted news of his death to his website and social media accounts Wednesday. Further details weren’t immediately available.

As the oldest and final surviving member of the Wilson brothers musical trio (Brian on bass, Carl on lead guitar, and Dennis on drums), Brian and his bandmates transitioned from a local California group to chart-topping sensations known for their iconic songs celebrating the beach and summer lifestyle.

While Wilson was admired for his musical talents, he was also plagued by personal struggles. Despite his inner demons, he was revered as a musical genius and revered for his relentless pursuit of sonic perfection, cementing his legacy as a true pioneer in the world of rock music.
