Jennifer Hudson was joined by her son, David Daniel Otunga Jr, at the 2025 BET Awards at Peacock Theater on June 09, 2025 in Los Angeles, California.

For the occasion, the mother-son duo matched in coordinating all-black looks with Hudson wearing a form-fitting gown by Gaurav Gupta.

She finished the look with a slicked-back ponytail and $270,000 worth of diamond jewelry from Jared Atelier.

Her 15-year-old son, whom she shares with ex-fiancé and former WWE star David Otunga, complemented her style in a black suit paired with a silver chain, jewelry, and glasses.

During the ceremony, Hudson took the stage to perform “Gold Digger” as part of a tribute to longtime friend Jamie Foxx. For the performance, she changed into a black velvet tuxedo-style minidress. She later posted a clip from the performance on Instagram, writing in the caption, “The Ultimate Icon that you are! We love you, Jamie!!!”

Last August, Jennifer celebrated her son’s 15th birthday on Instagram, writing, “Team Jhud, can yal help wish my kid @d.o.j10 a very happy blest 15th birthday! I can not believe that I got a 15 year old ! God is good ! Happy Birthday , my baby!!!!”

In a recent interview with Essence, the musician opened up about parenting a teen.

“Each phase of raising a kid is different from the last. So, it’s like, Okay, how do you need me now? How do I parent you now with where you are right now? So, we’re finding a new norm, and I’m preparing him for what’s to come.”

Now preparing to enter his junior year of high school, David Jr. shares his mom’s love for music and his dad’s love for sports

“So we love going to concerts and basketball games. I’m a basketball mom,” she admitted to the People in a recent interview. “So you’re going to see me at a lot of those sports events. And a lot of concerts. Because we love music too. So we’re just going to hang out and have a fun summer because we worked really hard throughout this school year.”
