GLENWOOD, Ill. (WCIA) — “Chatham Strong” signs line the street outside Glenwood High School, a reminder that you can’t take tomorrow for granted.

“You’re not guaranteed anything, whether it’s time or opportunities and things,” head coach Vondel Edgar said. “Things can change day to day, and it’s not in our control.”

“Whether we’re playing a game, whether we’re practicing, we’re going to work hard no matter what, give our 100% because nothing’s guaranteed,” sophomore Ava Bobb said. “You never know what tomorrow brings.”

Glenwood softball has forged a strong team bond this season, heading to state for the first time since 2014 with a 35-1 record.

“Our chemistry is amazing, I mean, I call these girls my family,” Bobb said. “I love hanging around them every day.” “They make the game so much fun, and they allow me to see that it’s so much more than a game.”

“With us being so close, we just know everybody has to charge back,” sophomore Hope Gilmore said. “Knowing that we’re all like one family, we all play for each other, and we do everything for each other, so it just makes us want it even more.”

It’s not just the team that’s unified.

“The whole community has come together this year, and it really has just meant a lot more to be able to be here and be on the field and be able to have the opportunity that others might not be able to have,” Bobb said.

Regardless of what happens over the weekend at state, the Titans are grateful to have two more games to play with this senior class.

“This group of seniors is amazing,” Gilmore said. “I couldn’t ask for a better group of seniors to go with. These are some of my best friends, so getting to extend the season and play as long as we can.”
