SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — No one is hurt following a fire at a business in Springfield early Thursday morning.

The fire happened inside the building of SLM Services, located on Christmas Seal Drive off of East Cook Street. Matthew Wood, a Deputy Chief in the Springfield Fire Department, said firefighters were first dispatched at 4:23 a.m. and arrived within five minutes. There were smoke and flames coming out of a window as they arrived.

Wood said the gas was already off and the electric meter was removed as firefighters began working to extinguish the fire. They made entry through the front door and, using a hose line, they had the fire extinguished within 20 minutes.

No one was inside the building at the time of the fire, and no firefighters were hurt.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
