Hugh Wallace is an Irish architect and TV presenter. He is best known as a judge in RTE’s Home of the Year (HOTY) and as the presenter of RTE’s Great House Revival. He is also the presenter of RTE’s My Bungalow Bliss, inspired by Kells-born Jack Fitzsimons’ bestselling book, first published in 1971.
Hugh was cast in Home of the Year in 2015 after winning a lifetime achievement award from the Institute of Designers. In 2019, he appeared on Virgin Media’s The Restaurant and was awarded five stars.
Wallace is a founding partner of Douglas Wallace Consultants, one of Ireland’s leading architecture and design companies. He has been responsible for overseeing projects for numerous clients including Aer Rianta, Irish Permanent, NIB, The Morrison Hotel, The G Hotel, The Galgorm Hotel & Spa, Milbrook Lodge Hotel, Brown Thomas Group, Clerys Department Store and various developments for Edward Holdings including Wellpark in Galway, Scotch Hall, Drogheda and Kirwan’s Court in Galway.
Wallace graduated from Sandford Park School in Dublin and went on to study architecture at Bolton Street College. After graduating, he began working in interior design because there was no demand for architects. A member of the Royal Institute of Architects in Ireland, Wallace is also a past president of the Institute of Designers in Ireland.

Hugh Wallace is the only child of Susan and Ken. He admired his mother, Sue, the most. He told the Irish Times about his admiration for his mother: “My mother, Sue, for being so resilient, positive and caring, and living with my dad, who was a drinker until I was 17. Sue and Ken, my father, were so happy together after dad stopped drinking… It was so sad that just as they were enjoying life Sue died.”

Hugh Wallace is married to Martin Corbett, the proprietor and lead stylist at Origin Hair Company in Ranelagh. Wallace and Martin got married in January 2012. The couple had a civil ceremony in Locks Brasserie before getting married once the Marriage Equality Act passed.
They first met on the staircase of The George pub, a popular gay bar in Dublin, at a time when homosexuality was illegal in Ireland. Born in Dublin, Wallace lives off Clanbrassil Street with his husband Martin Corbett.

Wallace said: “It was a difficult year. Going into 2020, we had a full book and 50 per cent was in hospitality and that was cancelled. Fee income fell off the earth and we had to re-adjust, reduce staff numbers and the Covid-19 payments from Government were a great help. To be totally honest, our business has only recently returned since January and there is hope in the hospitality sector that business is back.”
