DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — In Vermilion County, a group of volunteer gardeners are opening up about vandalism at their community garden.
Early last week, the Douglas Discovery Garden in Danville was vandalized. Volunteers said the mini library’s plexiglass was broken, plant pots were overturned, and plants were stolen.
One gardener said it was disheartening to see.
“We really like what we do here. We want to help the community,” said Marcia Miller. “That’s what this is for. So when people come in, vandalize, when it’s for them, it is disappointing. And a lot of our volunteers put in a lot of hours to help feed our community.”
Volunteers with the garden said they have filed a police report. They also said cameras are on the way to prevent future situations like this.
