Investigators say an elderly man hit a man on a scooter.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man died Friday night after being hit while riding a scooter on Moncrief Road, marking the 75th traffic fatality in Duval County this year.
The crash happened around 8:55 p.m. in the 4900 block of Moncrief Road. According to investigators, an elderly man driving northbound was attempting to switch into the left turn lane when he struck a man who was riding a scooter in the roadway.
Following the initial impact, a second vehicle — a white SUV driven by a man believed to be in his mid-50s — also hit the scooter rider. That driver fled the scene, police said.
The victim was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Moncrief Road was shut down for about an hour as officers processed the scene and launched an investigation into the hit-and-run.
Anyone with information about the white SUV or its driver is urged to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
