Update: Israel and Iran Trade Bombardments—but Iran May Be Failing

For the third straight day, Israel and Iran traded salvos, with the two sides destroying facilities in both Tehran and Tel Aviv. The war began on Friday, after Israel destroyed nuclear facilities in Tehran and took out the heads of the nuclear program in Iran in order to prevent them from enriching uranium.

Now, The Wall Street Journal’s live update reports even harder hits by Israel on Sunday:

An Iranian missile barrage overnight triggered a partial shutdown of a Haifa oil refinery in Israel.

The ebb and flow of strikes in both countries has forced residents to move between home and shelter. In Iran, the government has restricted internet access and warned against pro-Israel social-media posts.

President Trump told ABC News Sunday that Iran is interested in making a deal, one day after saying the Israel-Iran conflict should end.

According to NBC News’ latest live updates, Iran is still doing its utmost to destroy Israel:

Sirens were heard in Haifa and Tel Aviv around the time the military released the statement. The public was told to enter a protected space and only leave after an explicit directive was issued by authorities.

But Iran has suffered the brunt of damage under the Israeli strategic assaults, with reports that the Israeli air strikes have killed over 400 people, compared to the 14 people killed by the Iranian attacks. Among that number, several top Iranian regime targets have been assassinated.

Iranian infrastructure has also been destroyed, with raw sewage flowing through the streets of Tehran.

As my colleague Bonchie reported on Friday:

On Saturday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered an update stating clearly that Israel is defending freedom for itself and others. Netanyahu affirmed that Israel had to act decisively in order to stop Iran from developing atomic weapons and selling them to the highest bidder.

Netanyahu promised that Israeli fighters, “will deal blows to the Ayatollah regime that they cannot even imagine. We have indications that senior leaders in Iran are already packing their bags.”

This appears to be confirmed by certain X accounts.

In the midst of the relentless carnage and destruction, President Donald Trump said on Sunday that peace will come soon.

In a social media post, Trump said there were many unspecified meetings about the issue happening and encouraged the two countries to make a deal. And in an interview with ABC News, he said he was open to Putin, whose forces invaded Ukraine and who has resisted Trump’s attempts to broker a ceasefire with Kyiv, serving as a mediator.

Iran and Israel should make a deal, and will make a deal, just like I got India and Pakistan to make, in that case by using TRADE with the United States to bring reason, cohesion, and sanity into the talks with two excellent leaders who were able to quickly make a decision and STOP! Also, during my first term, Serbia and Kosovo were going at it hot and heavy, as they have for many decades, and this long time conflict was ready to break out into WAR. I stopped it (Biden has hurt the longer term prospects with some very stupid decisions, but I will fix it, again!). Another case is Egypt and Ethiopia, and their fight over a massive dam that is having an effect on the magnificent Nile River. There is peace, at least for now, because of my intervention, and it will stay that way! Likewise, we will have PEACE, soon, between Israel and Iran! Many calls and meetings now taking place. I do a lot, and never get credit for anything, but that’s OK, the PEOPLE understand. MAKE THE MIDDLE EAST GREAT AGAIN!

The world is watching and praying that this will be the case. As Iranian leaders are fleeing the country and leaving their people to suffer, pray that the Iranian people can install a new set of leaders who are not bloodthirsty power mongers.
