The US President told reporters: “We signed it, and it’s done.”

He added: “It’s a fair deal for both. It’ll produce a lot of jobs, a lot of income.”

Sir Keir replied: “Donald, thank you very much. This now implements on car tariffs and aerospace.

“A really important agreement. And so this is a very good day for both of our countries, a real sign of strength.”

Trump also made it clear that the deal would keep Britain “very well protected” from any future US tariffs.

But the president did not rule out British steel facing tax hikes as has been feared in recent weeks.

When asked if steel tariffs would be set to zero per cent for the UK, Trump replied: “We’re gonna let you have that information in little while.”

The deal is being seen as a huge positive step towards a growing relationship between the US and UK.

Trump even praised Starmer for the work he has been doing since winning the election for Labour by a landslide last year.

Washington’s main man said: “The prime minister’s done a great job. I just want to tell that to the people of the United Kingdom. He’s done a very, very good job.”
