Breaking: Trump Heading Back From G7 Early, Convening National Security Council (Updated)

Things appear to be ratcheting up in the Middle East. On Monday evening, after refusing to sign a rather tepid statement on the Iran-Israel situation proffered by other G7 leaders, President Donald Trump posted to Truth Social a warning that “Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!”

Not long after, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt tweeted that Trump, who arrived in Canada Sunday evening for the G7 summit, would be heading home after Monday’s dinner.

President Trump had a great day at the G7, even signing a major trade deal with the United Kingdom and Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Much was accomplished, but because of what’s going on in the Middle East, President Trump will be leaving tonight after dinner with Heads of State.

Additionally, Trump has reportedly alerted the National Security Council to be prepared to meet up on his return.

Trump also reiterated what he means by “America First”:

AMERICA FIRST means many GREAT things, including the fact that, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth joined Jesse Watters on Fox News Monday evening to affirm that the Trump administration would still like there to be a deal reached, and described the U.S. posture as this:

“We’re vigilant, we’re prepared…we’re in the region to defend our people and our assets.”

This is a developing story. RedState will provide additional updates as warranted.

Update – 9:00 PM Eastern

President Trump posed for photos with other G7 leaders at the summit in Canada prior to his departure. He was asked by a reporter about his plans to leave early:

REPORTER: Mr. President, any comment on why you’re leaving the G7 early for Washington?

TRUMP: Well, I have to be back — very important — I want to just thank our great host…Canada, but you probably see what I see, and I have to be back as soon as I can. Going to have dinner with these wonderful leaders, and then I get on a plane — I have to be back early for obvious reasons.

REPORTER: Have you directed the National Security Council to meet in the Situation Room?

TRUMP: I loved it — I tell you, I loved it — and I think we got a lot done, really a lot done…U.K. — we signed a new trade deal today and we’re working on others, but we had a…just a really great relationship with everybody, and it’s very nice. I wish I could stay for tomorrow, but they understand. This is big stuff.
