NORMAN, Okla. (KFOR) – A man was arrested after striking a woman with a sword at a metro Buddhist monastery and then shooting three of his family members in Norman Saturday.
Officials said 25-year-old Mark Christian Shepherd was arrested after a string of crimes in the afternoon.
First, Oklahoma City Police were called to the Buddhist Mind Monastery before 3 p.m. after Sheppard allegedly walked in with a sword and attacked a woman working the front desk.
According to officials, the stabbing happened near SE 59th Street and S Anderson Road.
He ran off before police got there, and the woman was sent to the hospital in critical condition.
Then Norman Police received a call after 3:30 p.m. of a shooting in a neighborhood near 1300 Torrey Pines Road.
When they arrived, officials said they found three people who had been shot, family members of Shepherd’s. Shepherd had already driven away.
Of the three family members, one man died as a result of his injuries while the other two women were taken to the hospital, where they are currently in critical condition, according to police.

Eventually, Shepherd would be pulled over near Chautauqua Avenue and State Highway 9. Norman Police reported that he was taken into custody without further incident.
He is now in the Cleveland County Detention Center on one charge of First-Degree Murder and two charges of Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
It’s not known yet what charges he could face regarding the sword attack in Oklahoma City.
