Wednesday Morning Minute: The Stunted Dems

TOP O’ THE MORNIN’

Red-Hot at RedState

Many experts agree that the United States has the only weapon that could do it: the massive GBU-57 A/B Massive Ordnance Penetrator bomb. It weighs in at a and is designed to penetrate down into the rock before letting loose its real destruction.

If liberals want to change immigration law, they can run for Congress—not run interference at the courthouse.

What we do know is that given this latest threat, there’s no way this war can end with a negotiated settlement that allows Iran to keep its nuclear program.

Trending Across Townhall Media

Professor Smith says it’s almost unheard of for an appellate court to withdraw an opinion once it’s been issued, and I can’t recall this happening in my 20+ years of covering the Second Amendment and the courts.

The rise of Mamdani is a good reminder that there is a substantial number of truly insane people in our country, and that they are concentrated in Blue cities.

The Democrats can scream like toddlers all they want; there aren’t any Republicans who are in the mood to be the weak parents who cave. I’m not sure it’s possible, but maybe the Dems can exhaust themselves.

These people care more about criminal illegal aliens than citizens, which explains the insane commentaries from national Democrats—this is their base. Behold and look away, folks.

“The federal government enforcing immigration laws in my state will be why fires get out of control this year” is PEAK Gavin Newsom.

WHAT’S ON TAP?

Today on Capitol Hill…

The Senate is back on the Hill today with several meetings/hearings, including:

  • Senate Armed Services — Hearings to examine the President’s proposed budget request for fiscal year 2026 and the Future Years Defense Program for the Department of Defense [Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Dan Caine to testify]
  • Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation, Surface Transportation, Maritime, Freight, and Ports — Hearings to examine modernizing America’s rail network
  • Senate Energy and Natural Resources — Hearings to examine the President’s proposed budget request for fiscal year 2026 for the Department of Energy [Energy Secretary Chris Wright to testify]
  • Senate Judiciary — Hearings to examine the Biden presidency and the Constitution (“Unfit to Serve: How the Biden Cover-Up Endangered America and Undermined the Constitution”) [I’ll be watching this one!]
  • Senate Appropriations, Department of Defense Subcommittee — Hearings to examine proposed budget estimates for fiscal year 2026 for the Army

White House What’s Up

After returning from the G7 in Canada and spending much of Tuesday meeting with his National Security Council in the Situation Room, President Donald Trump has a fairly light formal schedule on Wednesday — though we can expect we’ll “hear” from him throughout the day.

At 11:00 AM, they’re raising the flag poles he’s had installed at the White House. At noon, he’ll participate in a Swearing-In Ceremony for the Ambassador to the French Republic and Principality of Monaco. After that, he’ll have lunch with the Chief of Army Staff of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Vice President JD Vance has reaffirmed Trump’s stance on Iran

Full Court Press…

The Supreme Court is set to hand down additional opinions today. We will, of course, monitor those announcements and report on any of note. My latest Skinny on SCOTUS installment is out — will do my best to get the next one up today or tomorrow and then get us caught up over the weekend.

There were some interesting court decisions on Wednesday, including the dreaded Judge Boasberg actually finding in favor of the administration on a Freedom of Information Act/records retention case.

And the 9th Circuit heard oral argument on Tuesday in Newsom v. Trump (regarding the National Guard federalization/deployment). We can expect a ruling from them in the next day or two, but it sounds as though it went pretty well for the administration.

COMING ATTRACTIONS

Trump is set to attend the annual NATO Summit next week in the Netherlands.

As noted above, we’ll be getting some SCOTUS decisions momentarily and can expect a 9th Circuit ruling on the Newsom-Trump tug-of-war in the next day or so.

MORNING MUSING

I’ve shared this before here, but some may not know this: I’m a recovering Democrat. I was a liberal (center-left) Dem until around my mid-thirties, so I have a fair degree of empathy for “regular Joe” Dems. That’s to be distinguished from the Progressive Left and from what I call “Professional Dems” — the folks who make their living in front of the camera, either actually in media or by perpetually mugging for it. It’s clichéd at this point, but the Professional Dems have lost the plot. Their only guiding principle anymore seems to be to oppose Donald Trump — and anyone or anything associated with him — at all costs. They’ve stopped being aspirational and having their own positive platform or agenda. It’s all just “NOT TRUMP!!1!” And they seem to have missed that that really isn’t working well for them.

Their solution to this stunted growth? More stunts. Cursing, crass language, outlandish statements, barging into departments and ICE facilities, wild-eyed fake filibusters, crashing Cabinet secretary press conferences, getting physical with federal law enforcement, and getting arrested. And many of their base, taking their cue, have translated that into street riots, vandalism, looting, attacking law enforcement.

Toddlers? Rebellious teens? Possessed by demons? None of the fitting metaphors paint a pretty picture of my former tribe. They’ve lost the plot and lost their way. And unless/until they find their Joshua (who, I predict, won’t be named Gavin or JB or Kamala), it seems they’re destined to continue wandering in the desert.

Right now, it seems, all they have is stunts — good for some attention; good for mockery; not good for their party or the republic.

LIGHTER FARE

“What do you want me to do, dress in drag and do the hula?” (Can’t see a meerkat and not think of Timon!)
