Confusion simmered among the Love Island USA-verse this week when Bravolebrity Paige DeSorbo made a guest appearance for a challenge, but then mysteriously disappeared halfway through it, never to return. The show didn’t explain the circumstances, but the Summer House star finally explained what happened on her Giggly Squad podcast on Tuesday.
According to DeSorbo, less than 24 hours after landing in Fiji, she headed to the LIUSA set to film. She didn’t have time to “acclimate,” she told listeners.
“But I’m fine, I’m not gonna say that,” she said. “I’m not gonna be a diva. Like, I’m doing a job.”
As she introduced the challenge, she certainly looked uncomfortable, squinting and sweating in the sun. Her suede gown featured cutouts, but its turtleneck and long, skin-tight skirt no doubt trapped the heat, essentially slow roasting poor DeSorbo. Heavy hair extensions and a microphone pack at the back of her neck added to the issue.
“The sun starts beating down on me pretty aggressively,” she said. “I have a high pain tolerance, so if I’m uncomfortable, I’m really waiting for the last second to tell you, because I don’t want to be a problem. I don’t want to be bothersome.”
Despite water breaks, ice packs and the crew’s attempts to shield DeSorbo from the sun, she excuses herself two hours into filming, and promptly vomits.
Still, she attempts to power through.
“I’m not feeling totally normal, but again, I’m not stopping the show that so graciously has asked me to come on,” she said. “I literally sit down [and] pass out.”
From there, she knew she couldn’t go on. DeSorbo said she assumed producers would edit the scene to make it look like she was there the whole time. However, they didn’t, leaving watchers confused by her brief, stilted appearance.
A Love Island fan herself, DeSorbo said the opportunity was “a dream come true.” Given notice only a month before her call time, the star, known for her chic fashion sense, immediately began her search for an outfit. Only a day before she was set to fly out, she finally put together four options, all “perfect for Love Island.”
The morning of her flight, producers told DeSorbo she’d also be hosting a Lumberjack-themed challenge, so she last-minute packed the now-infamous green dress—unaware, until she arrived on set already wearing it, that it’d be the only outfit she’d appear in on the show.
“This isn’t the outfit that I wanted to be on Love Island in,” she said. “I’ve already worn this before. I’m gonna get torn apart online. They’re gonna say, ‘Lizzie McGuire, you’re a f****** outfit repeater,’ which they did.”
Fans indeed recognized the dress, which she had worn in Summer House After Show Season 8.
