The massive success of Hulu’s The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives has catapulted its stars, including Demi Engemann, into stardom. However, fans noticed that she was not at the cast reunion for Season 2, sparking speculation about the reason. Fans were also curious whether Demi had not been invited to the show.

Demi heard the chatter and responded appropriately, posting on her Instagram Story about how she already had plans. “I was [invited],” she wrote. “It was short notice and the only day they could get the location secured was the day that me and my entire family did Disneyland.”

Demi also shared on her Instagram Story why she and her family didn’t just change the dates of their trip for another time. “We had already booked all of our flights and the Airbnb was nonrefundable or I would’ve moved the trip to be there. I tried to have production move it to another day and they couldn’t swing it sadly,” she wrote.

Demi has been a controversial figure in The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Season 2, with some fans labeling her a villain. A TikTok video addressing her behavior was posted, dissecting Demi’s actions and whether she was “throwing other ladies under the bus to take the heat off herself.” Fans of the reality TV show reacted in the comments.

“I do not believe a word that comes out of her mouth. She is constantly trying to kick these girls and takes zero accountability for her actions,” a fan wrote. “There’s no backtracking when she already admitted to wanting Jessi kicked off to get paid more,” another person shared. Other reactions include: “The more she talks, the more she looks guilty. Why are you out here defending yourself to the death?!,” and “Demi should stop. Even if the girls didn’t disagree with her, it was her and her husband that took it too far.”

Demi does have some friends in her corner though, including Whitney Leavitt, who gave an interview to Decider on June 5 addressing how many cast members had “villainous moments”, including Jen Affleck, who she claimed “lied a lot in the beginning,” and Mikayla Mathews was allegedly “so incredibly rude” to her.

“In the show, naturally, someone’s going to be designated as the villain. But everyone in Season 2 had their villainous moments,” Leavitt said. “Like, I wouldn’t even consider Demi to be just the villain.” She continued, “Every time there’s a new season, I hope somebody gets to see a different side of the person that they’re watching, or whoever they’re excited to watch, because it may seem like you’re seeing all of us, but you’re not.”

Could ‘The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’ Season 3 paint Demi in a different light?
