Brad Pitt, one of Hollywood’s most recognizable actors and producers, has long maintained a unique presence in the entertainment world. Rising to fame in 1991 with his breakout role in Thelma & Louise, Pitt has gone on to star in numerous acclaimed films such as Legends of the Fall (1994), Se7en (1995), Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005), and Inglourious Basterds (2009).

Over his decades-long career, Pitt has received multiple prestigious awards, including two Academy Awards, two BAFTAs, two Golden Globes, and a Primetime Emmy. His charisma and cultural impact have earned him other honors as well—twice named People Magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” (1995 and 2000), a spot on the Time 100 list in 2007, and regular appearances on Forbes’ Celebrity 100 list from 2006 to 2008.

Now, the Oscar-winner is gearing up for his next high-profile project: F1: The Movie, directed by Joseph Kosinski. The film is set for release in the U.S. on June 27, 2025.

Brad Pitt on Politics: “I Can Help in Other Ways”

In a candid interview with GQ Magazine back in May 2017, Pitt opened up about his approach to politics and activism. When asked whether he felt pressure to be more politically vocal, Pitt responded simply, “I can help in other ways.”

He elaborated that storytelling through film is one of the most powerful tools he has at his disposal.

“I can help by getting movies out with certain messages. I’ve got to be moved by something—I can’t fake it. I grew up with that Ozarkian mistrust of politics to begin with, so I just do better building a house for someone in New Orleans or getting certain movies to the screen that might not get made otherwise.”

A Lifelong Love of Stories

The actor also reflected on what initially drew him to the world of film. As a child, Pitt was fascinated by stories—especially those that offered perspectives far different from his own.

“As a kid, I was certainly drawn to stories—beyond the stories that we were living and knew, stories with different points of view. And I found those stories in film, especially. Different cultures and lives so foreign to mine. I think that was one of the draws that propelled me into film.”

Though he modestly claimed he isn’t a skilled storyteller in conversation, Pitt said he found his voice in film.

“I’m certainly not a good orator, sitting here telling a story, but I could foster them in film.”

On Acting, Growth, and Creativity

When asked if acting still excites him, Pitt said that it’s the creative risks—like comedy or anything that feels like a gamble—that keep him engaged.

“If I believe something is worthy, then I know it will be worthy in time to come.”

He also touched on personal struggles, particularly those involving youth and substance use. For Pitt, the missteps were all part of a broader journey toward understanding and growth.

“For me every misstep has been a step toward epiphany, understanding, some kind of joy. Yeah, the avoidance of pain is a real mistake. It’s the real missing out on life. It’s those very things that shape us… that make us better.”

Life After His Split with Angelina Jolie

The interview came shortly after his highly publicized split from actress Angelina Jolie. Pitt admitted that he found solace and healing in creativity, turning to sculpture and other artistic endeavors to cope with personal turmoil.

He revealed that he was working hard on self-improvement and on being a better father, even though his visitation rights were limited at the time.

“There’s no love without loss. It’s a package deal.”

With F1: The Movie just around the corner, Brad Pitt continues to evolve—both as a performer and as a person—while using his platform to uplift stories that matter.
