BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham Police Department arrested a teenage suspect in connection to the shooting of two people earlier this week.

On Monday, June 16, South Precinct officers were dispatched to UAB Hospital on a report of two people suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

When officers arrived at the hospital, they learned that the vehicle the victims had been in was shot into in the 1500 block of F.L. Shuttleworth Drive. The victims drove themselves to the hospital.

Officers and detectives with the BPD spoke with the victims to gather information pertaining to the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The suspect was identified as a 16-year-old juvenile male.

BPD detectives presented case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, and the suspect was issued with two attempted murder warrants and a warrant for shooting into an occupied vehicle. BPD’s Crime Reduction Team and Narcotics Unit took the suspect into custody in the 1500 block of 20th Street North without any incident.

The juvenile is in custody at the Jefferson County Jail on a $150,000 bond.
