DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — Mike “Tuna” McElroy, former mayor of Decatur, was inducted into the city’s Hall of Fame on Friday.

McElroy served the City of Decatur for many years. He was on the city council for six years before running for mayor in 2009. McElroy then served as mayor for six years before passing away in 2015.

Family and friends of McElroy gathered on Friday for the ceremony, including Decatur Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe.

Moore Wolfe recognized McElroy’s contributions to the City of Decatur and said his leadership helped jumpstart the $94-million Lake Decatur dredging project, downtown revitalization, the new police department headquarters, among other projects.

Decatur’s Hall of Fame can be found in the Decatur Civic Center lobby on the west wall.
