The Salvation Army Bristol, TN, corps officers move on to Kentucky assignment

BRISTOL, Tenn. (WJHL) — The community bid farewell to The Salvation Army of Bristol, TN’s Majors Brooks and Lori Gilliam on Sunday as they head to their newest assignment.

Majors Brooks and Lori Gilliam’s next assignment is in Louisville, Kentucky. Major Brooks will become the Divisional Secretary for Personnel, while Major Lori will become the Divisional Secretary of Women’s Ministries. The pair will serve Kentucky and Tennessee.

The final service of the Gilliams included heartfelt singing and emotions, along with Major Brooks’ final sermon. The pair expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the Bristol community and said that they have established lifelong connections in the region.

“I think the opportunities for The Salvation Army to partner and work with other organizations. We had a partnership with the United Way, which continues,” Major Brooks Gilliam said. “We have expanded our partnership with Bristol’s Promise in operating their day center on our property three days a week.”

The Salvation Army of Bristol, TN, said the following in a social media post on June 15:

We are incredibly grateful to Majors Brooks & Lori Gilliam for their faithful and compassionate service to the Bristol community. Over the years, they’ve led with heart—meeting needs, offering hope, and making a lasting impact on countless lives through their ministry. Their dedication will not be forgotten, and they leave behind a strong foundation of love and service.

As part of The Salvation Army’s regular officer appointments, the Gilliams will be moving on to a new assignment, and we’re excited to welcome Majors Jay & Jamie Spalding as the new leaders of our local ministry.
