Staff report

ALACHUA, Fla. – Glenn David MacCallum, 51, of Gainesville, was arrested yesterday for pointing a gun at another car in a road rage incident in Alachua.

At about 8:55 a.m. on June 21, an Alachua Police Department officer responded to a call from the victims, who said a man pointed a gun at them and their child without provocation.

The officer found a vehicle driving on U.S. Hwy 441 that matched the description provided by the victims and conducted a high-risk traffic stop. The driver, identified as MacCallum, was detained, and a loaded black pistol was reportedly found in a holster inside his waistband.

Post Miranda, MacCallum reportedly did not wish to speak to the officer about the incident.

The victims reportedly identified MacCallum “without a shadow of a doubt” as the man who had pointed a gun at them; they also described the black pistol.

MacCallum was also allegedly driving without a valid license; his license was suspended indefinitely in September 2024.

MacCallum has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and knowingly driving with a suspended license. He has no criminal history, and Judge Susanne Wilson Bullard set bail at $250 (see below); MacCallum also owes $445 in child support and is being held on a civil order in that case.

[Editor’s note: We get bail amounts from the jail site on weekends because the court website is not updated on those days. The jail site normally shows “$0” as the bail when a defendant is held without bail, but today we received information from the 8th Judicial Circuit that the jail site was erroneously showing a bail amount for a different defendant, but the defendant is actually being held without bail. Given that information, it is likely that MacCallum is also being held without bail on the aggravated assault charges, with $250 bail for the charge of driving without a license. The article will be updated if we receive new information.]
