Sister Wives: Kody And Robyn Reveal If They’d Ever Return To Plural Marriage

This season of Sister Wives showed viewers drama within the Brown family like never before. Season 19 of the reality TV show included unforeseen challenges, such as the legal battle over a plot of land known as Coyote Pass, which had to be settled in court. Another heartbreaking moment that took up much of the season was the loss of family member Garrison, who was only in his mid-20s at the time of his passing.

Though the family came together to bury Garrison at a plot in Wyoming, it was the first time many of them had been gathered together since splitting from the family’s patriarch, Kody. In the season’s special one-on-one episodes, Kody and his final remaining wife, Robyn, opened up about whether they would ever pursue plural marriage again.

Kody Confessed If He’d Ever Go Back To Plural Marriage

In his special one-on-one episode, Kody spoke with interviewer Suki Krishnan about his relationship history, and whether he’d ever consider marrying additional partners. Longtime fans of the show will recall that, at one point, Kody had a maximum of four wives, though he only remains legally married to the youngest, Robyn.

Christine was the first of Kody’s wives to officially announce her separation from him in late 2021. Once she got the ball rolling, it wasn’t long before his partners Meri and Janelle also followed suit. (In their own one-on-one interviews, both of the women spoke out about the issues in their respective relationships with Kody; Christine, for her part, opened up about the lack of physical and emotional intimacy towards the end of her marriage, while Janelle pointed out that Kody would try to “attack” the women when he realized they wanted to separate from him.)

When it was time for Kody’s one-on-one episode, it appeared that he came prepared to set the record straight from his point of view. Some viewers noted how easily defensive he grew during the questions, and some even thought he seemed to be angry throughout the interview.

At one point in the episode, Suki pointed out that, now that Kody’s exes Christine, Meri, and Janelle had all chosen to separate from him, he was technically in a monogamous relationship with Robyn. She proceeded to ask if, further down the line, whether Kody could see himself going back to polygamy, much like the faith he grew up with believes in.

Kody was firm in his answer, clearly having thought about the matter beforehand, and he didn’t mince his words when he responded. In fact, Kody could not have been more straightforward in stating his desire to stay far away from the type of polygamy he once practiced years ago.

In response to Suki’s question, Kody answered very bluntly:

H*** no. And I’ll tell you why, because we already failed. I would never try plural marriage again.

Kody was a bit crass in his words, going on to explain why plural marriage didn’t appeal to him any longer. “I’m not interested in plural marriage anymore. I don’t want to pursue another woman because I don’t want the headache. I’m not in that space,” he added.

That said, Kody did highlight that the one good thing that came of plural marriage was his kids, saying that he was “glad” for the experience that gave him “all those children.”

Robyn Holds The Same Belief As Kody—But With A Slight Twist

For her part, Robyn also noted that she didn’t think she’d go back to plural marriage again, though she approached it from a different angle. That is, she explained that she’d always believed she would live out her life with plural marriage, and she saw the way things had gone with Kody as taking the life she envisioned “away” from her:

I had a different plan for my life. I was going to live in a plural marriage and I was going to be part of a big family. That’s been taken away from me.

That said, Robyn did double down that she would “always choose” her husband, making it clear that she felt secure in their relationship as it currently stands.

Certainly Robyn and Kody aren’t the only ones in the family to find themselves leaving plural marriage behind. One of his exes, Christine, has since gone on to remarry, and she now claims that she was always intended for monogamy. She shared that she and her new partner, David Woolley, are perfectly content in a dynamic of two.
