A New York state man was arrested last week for kidnapping a 5-year-old boy while Child Protective Services were on the scene to remove the boy from the home.
CPS from two counties, along with Gloversville Police, were on the scene on Friday to enforce the court-ordered removal when Sergio Poietti arrived and said he was a family friend, WTEN reported. He asked what was going on and then, officials thought, left the area.
But he didn’t. He went to the other side of the house, climbed in a window, and abducted the child. CPS and officers discovered the child was missing a few minutes later when they went inside with the mother.
Police launched a city-wide search and found the child with Proietti at another home about 90 minutes later,, WNYT said. The boy had not been harmed.
Proietti was charged with kidnapping, custodial interference, obstruction of governmental administration, and endangering the welfare of a child. He was booked into the Fulton County Correctional Facility with a $7,500 bail.
Police did not characterize the actual relationship between Proietti, the child, and the mother.
