While Suge Knight and Sean “Diddy” Combs spent many years as rivals, Knight has seemingly softened towards the disgraced mogul during his trial. Knight has said he thinks Combs deserves a prison sentence, but he does not want to see him spend the rest of his life behind bars. He called on Combs to make things right by testifying during his trial.
Suge Knight thinks Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs should testify during his trial
Knight is currently carrying out a 28-year prison sentence for a hit-and-run. He discussed his longtime rival, noting that he could never support a man who allegedly abused women. Knight believes that Combs can begin to make amends by testifying during his trial.
“The only way [Combs] can even begin to take some of that pain away is if they have Puff Daddy on the stand,” Knight told People. “And the truth come out. Puffy should get on the stand and look these people in the eye and say, ‘This what I did.’ One person shouldn’t be bigger than the community, one person shouldn’t be bigger than the culture and one person shouldn’t be bigger than the United States. Puffy can really make a right for his wrongs.”
He believes Combs needs to “man up” and honestly address the allegations against him.
“You know how big that would be if he told the truth? At the end of the day — this trial —everybody’s watching,” Knight said. “Why not make this a healing process? So, if I can man up… Puffy, don’t be a b****, my n****. Go in there and man up.”
The mogul will not testify
Despite Knight’s words, Combs will not testify in his trial. He reportedly initially wanted to, but his defense team will not call any witnesses. It would likely be too big a risk to let Combs take the stand, as the prosecution can cross-examine him about damning evidence, like video footage of him attacking Cassie Ventura in a hotel.
By contrast, the prosecution presented 34 witnesses.
Suge Knight thinks Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs belongs in prison
While Knight admitted that he feels bad for Combs, he thinks he deserves to spend time in prison, especially for the way he allegedly treated Ventura.
“He does deserve [prison],” Knight said. “I don’t mean like… ‘Oh, you beat the s*** out of Cassie, so, oh well.’ No, she’s a woman. You should never disrespect a woman like that. “What I am saying is how do we fix this? I think everyone should be held accountable — even myself. I don’t care who it is. Anybody who does those horrible things to women deserves their issue.”
He said seeing the infamous hotel footage changed his opinion of the case against Combs.
“As for the things he did, the way he beat Cassie, that’s unacceptable, period,” he said. ” I would never support any man to beat a woman like that.”
Combs faces life in prison if convicted.
