ABINGDON, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Abingdon Police Department said the town’s aquatics coordinator was arrested and later terminated from his position for allegedly filming a juvenile coworker who was changing clothes at the Coomes Recreation Center.
A release from the police department said Brent Robinson, 53, was charged with creating unlawful images of a minor and filming/photographing child porn following the alleged crime that took place on June 19.
According to police, officers responded to the Coomes Rec Center that day amid a report that an employee had filmed a juvenile coworker who was changing clothes in an employee-only area of the facility.
“The investigation determined that the suspect, Brent Robinson, who was also employed at the Coomes Recreation Center, used a personal cellular device and a smart watch to capture video of the juvenile without their knowledge or consent,” the release states.
Police said Robinson was “immediately suspended and removed from the premises” following the report and fired from his position on Monday. According to the release, Robinson worked for the town from 10/12/2023 to 10/06/2024 as a part-time lifeguard and from 10/07/2024 to 06/23/2025 as a full-time aquatics coordinator.
Abingdon police said the investigation remains ongoing and, due to the reported victim being a juvenile, no further information will be released at this time.
According to a Feb. 2024 social media post by Abingdon’s Parks and Recreation Department, Robinson was named the Coomes Rec Center’s employee of the month that month.
“The Abingdon Police Department would like to extend sincere thanks to the Virginia State Police and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance during this investigation,” the release states. “Their partnership was instrumental in bringing this case to a swift resolution.”
