The House on Wednesday unanimously adopted a resolution condemning the shootings in Minnesota earlier this month that left a state lawmaker and her husband dead and two others wounded.

The resolution cleared the chamber in an overwhelming 424-0 vote, a strong, bipartisan show of disapproval for the attacks that shook Minnesota and Washington, putting a spotlight on the rising threats against elected lawmakers.

The legislation said the House “strongly condemns and denounces” the shootings, honors the life of state Rep. Melissa Horman (D) and her husband, Mark, who were killed in the attack, as well as state Sen. John Hoffman (D) and his wife, Yvette, who were critically wounded. It also honors the “courageous” law enforcement officers who responded to the scene.

Additionally, the measure calls on community leaders and elected officials to “publicly and unequivocally denounce acts of political violence” and urges all individuals in the U.S. “to unite in this moment of pain and tragedy and reaffirm our commitment to a safe, civil, and peaceful democracy where violence rhetoric and acts are not tolerated.”
