The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says the 18-year-old suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his left leg.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — An 18-year-old man was shot Wednesday night while trying to take a gun from another man accused of shooting it in the air at Charles Clark Park in Northwest Jacksonville, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

According to JSO Sgt. Smith, just before 10 p.m. Wednesday, officers were called to UF Health hospital in reference to the 18-year-old being shot. Smith said he suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his left leg.

Based on JSO’s initial investigation into the incident, Smith said the 18-year-old was at the park when the suspect began shooting a gun in the air.

“The victim attempted to stop the male from shooting by taking the gun,” Smith told First Coast News. “The victim was shot in the process. The victim was unable to identify who shot him. This incident appears to be an isolated incident with no further threat to the public.”

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call JSO’s non-emergency number at 904-630-0500. To provide information anonymously, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
